Building Stable Futures through Housing, Mentorship, and Belonging

MISSION STATEMENT

We are a purpose-driven nonprofit providing safe, stable housing and a supportive community for young people aging out of the foster care system. Our mission is to offer a sense of belonging, structure, and guidance to girls and young men, equipping them with the tools they need to live, grow, and build a stable future in today’s world.

OUR FOCUS

Youth aging out of the foster care system, with an initial focus on young women and young men aged 18 and older who are without stable housing or supportive family structures.

Author • Trauma-Informed Coach • Speaker • Filmmaker

Sara Banyan is a speaker, filmmaker, and trauma-informed coach whose life and work are proof that healing is possible—and that survivors don’t have to walk the path alone.

For over two decades, she has guided actors, athletes, and professionals through major personal breakthroughs using her signature blend of somatic insight, storytelling, and grounded nervous system tools. But what sets Sara apart is not just her expertise — it’s her lived experience. A survivor of childhood and teen sexual assault, Sara spent decades navigating the mental, emotional, and spiritual aftermath. Her relentless pursuit of healing led her into deep therapeutic work with clinical trauma specialist Will Randle, LCSW—who later offered a powerful endorsement of her work.

That drive to serve birthed I Believe You: Healing the Invisible Scars of Childhood Sexual Trauma (formerly Transforming Trauma), a feature-length documentary currently in post-production, fiscally sponsored by the renowned nonprofit From the Heart Productions. Sara is shaping three hours of raw interview footage into a powerful one-hour special with co-editor Adam Heyes. Its 12-minute trailer alone has already moved survivors from rural Tennessee to remote villages near Zagreb—people who finally felt seen. She is also completing her companion book, The Language of Invisible Scars: From Survival to Self-Love —a powerful, honest exploration of trauma’s impact and the path to healing, written for survivors and those who support them.

“Sara’s courage and determination over time were extraordinary,” says Randle. “She never missed appointments, and never failed to take what she was working on in session into the rest of her life… She now offers peer support and leadership to other survivors for no other reason than to be of service.”

A safe landing. A strong beginning.

Founder’s Statement

For years, I carried the question of whether I was meant to be a mother. About three years ago, I asked God if fostering here in Georgia was my path. The answer came in a way I’ll never forget: “Sara, they are all your children.”

That was the beginning of A Place to Call Home.

We are building more than housing. This is a two-year, fully supported program to help young adults aging out of foster care transition into life with stability, skill, and hope. We teach financial literacy. We connect them with job training. We offer therapy, mentorship, and a safe, sober living environment.

When they’re ready, they step forward into independence. If they need more time, we continue walking with them.

And we will always have a place for them to come back to.

At the center of our vision is a large, church-like hall with long tables where holidays and birthdays are celebrated together. A guest house for visits. A place that says: You can always come home. Because once you’ve sat at this table, you will always have a seat here.

This is what belonging looks like. This is the home I am called to create.
